How do we do this? (our mission)
We gather to grow in loving, Christ-centred community, and scatter to promote the gospel in St Lucia, Brisbane and beyond.
Our core values (What do we most value? What is central to who we are?)
Gathering: the word for church in the New Testament means to assemble, gather or get together for a purpose. So that’s what we do at 5:17 church. We seek every opportunity to gather together to grow in a loving, Christ-centred community (Acts 2:42-46, Hebrews 1:24-25)
Growing: the purpose of our gatherings is personal and community transformation in the grasping and growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord (2 Peter 3:18, Galatians 5:22-23)
Love: the result of our growth should be love – the mark of Christians and the church (Mark 12:30-31, John 13:34-35)
Christ: our greatest treasure. He is our Saviour, King and example, the Head of the church, the King of the universe (Colossians 1:15-20)
Scattering: Jesus sent all His people into all the world to make disciples (Matt 28:18-20, John 20:21). That’s why when we aren’t gathering together, we are promoting the gospel through word and deed in:
- St Lucia: our local community
- Brisbane: where we live, work and play
- Beyond: Australia to the ends of the earth
